Sir John Forrest was Premier of Western Australia 1890-1901. In the 1890s he supported Federation but believed that his recently self-governing colony was not ready to join a united Australia. He unsuccessfully tried to secure concessions for Western Australia, and particularly pushed for the building of a transcontinental railway. Quiz 15 July 1897
